Welcome to the inaugural edition of CS COUPE, the new BMW E9 magazine.

With great pleasure and satisfaction, I can finally present you the first of its kind, a magazine purely focused on one of BMW’s most history-changing models and written for owners and enthusiasts worldwide. In this first edition, you will be presented with an exquisite collection of articles spread over 140 pages, setting the new standard for car magazines. Filled with in-depth features, history, technical articles, reviews, and stories by those who own and cherish these cars, there is plenty for everyone. At last, we have our own exclusive publication —a privilege not commonly found in car magazines.

Aiming to strengthen and expand the E9 community, the magazine forms the printed half of a double venture that also includes a digital platform. With the first edition now realised, the next step is to build the accompanying online presence, including a database, knowledge library, and store, to ensure everyone is catered for. As we believe the only way to preserve the model is by working in unison.

We know you can hardly wait to start reading the prominent features in this edition to celebrate the official launch of CS COUPE, so we’re excited to introduce some of the highlights:

Known as the E9 oracle of the UK, John Castle has long been at the forefront of anything related to this model. His years of chairmanship of the Register at the BMW Car Club GB formed the basis of a strong community within the UK and neighbouring countries. We were truly honoured when John agreed to be the first guest writer for CS COUPE. As you’ll find out on page 8, he sets the standard high with an in-depth story on the origins of the Batmobile.

As part of the feature articles, we have an exclusive behind-the-scenes at Competition Classics in the UK. The brainchild of Chris Greenwood, they specialise in the restoration, maintenance, and running of E9 race cars. Over the years, his team has maintained and worked on some exclusive vehicles, such as the only factory rally car and the ’73 Le Mans race car.
Chris’ latest creation is a Gr2 race car that is actively participating in the Historic Cup. We met up with the owner during the preparations for the Historic Touring Challenge at Silverstone and learned all about Simon, the why, the how, and his unique car.

An essential part of CS COUPE is to inform, widen, and maintain technical knowledge relevant to the model. A significant portion of the magazine will be focussed on subjects related to this, including how-to’s, research, and reviews. So, what better way to kick things off with three relevant subjects that can easily be realised during some winter DIY?

Owners and enthusiasts form the backbone of any community, and sharing your ride is one of the ways of bringing us together. Instead of having to visit random car shows hoping to find an E9, you can now read about them in the magazine. Mark shares his story about when he found one of the 500 RHD cars in Australia, and Jon introduces us to not one but two of his CSLs. Finally, we speak to Alex, one of the latest E9 owners, and how he came to find his pride and joy.

Overall, there is plenty of high-quality content to sink your teeth into. As such, I won’t keep you any longer and wish you nothing but pure enjoyment as you read page after page. Before I sign off, I’d love to hear your feedback and suggestions for the next edition, which will help us continue to improve the magazine. Your contribution, in any shape or form, is greatly appreciated!

Gute Fahrt!
