FEATURES
Based in East Sussex, UK, Competition Classics is a renowned specialist in classic car restoration and historic race car preparation. We spoke to the owner Chris and discovered what sets them apart from the rest.
The name Karmann and our E9s go hand-in-hand, for better or worse. Yet they are known for more than just the birthplace of our cars. Although a significant part of our car’s history, it was merely a small chapter in the history of this car making giant. With production spanning over nearly 110 years at facilities around the world, we delve deeper into this major player in the world of automotive construction and design.
Dive into Simon’s journey of creating a one-of-a-kind CSL, inspired by the legendary 1970s racers. From his early motorsport days to crafting this modern masterpiece, we explore the passion and dedication behind his unique race car.
TECHNICAL
Car batteries are at the heart of a vehicle’s electrical system. The world has evolved significantly, offering various options tailored to different needs. This article explores different types of car batteries, their pros and cons, and helps you choose the right one for your car.
The wheels and tyre options from the 70s are very different from those prevailing today. Although technology and safety has significantly improved, tyres for 14” wheels are becoming more difficult to find. This article aims to provide you with a solid understanding and an overview of the latest options available.
Rarely mentioned and often misunderstood, the rear brake pressure limiter is critical to safe braking on disc-equipped E9s. This guide demystifies the unit, showing how it works—and how to carefully restore it when BMW’s “Do not touch” advice no longer applies.
COUPE GARAGE
Missing out on his first CSL by mere minutes in 2021, Mark Lias found a hidden gem on the east coast of Australia, a Ceylon Gold RHD CSL. But was it as good as it looked, or would Mark find himself down the rabbit hole of an endless restoration?
When your steering wheel is as special as this, it has to be fitted to every classic BMW you’ve owned. Yet how did Jon Furley end up with this steering wheel, and besides not one but two CSLs, how many other cars has it guided along the winding roads of this world?
What began as a search for storage ended with a slightly scruffy CSL, a new workshop, and a lot more rust, filler, and charm than expected. This is the story of Alex and of how one particular E9 proved impossible to ignore—or part with.
